Herp of the day: Central italian asp viper

The central Italian asp (Vipera aspis francisciredi) is a venomous viper subspecies endemic to northern and central Italy and adjacent Croatia, Slovenia, and Switzerland.

They grows to an average total length of 60–65 centimetres (24–26 in). This species is responsible for 90% of all cases of snakebite in Italy and it is the only mortal snake in Italian mountains.
