Herp of the day

Herp of the day: Sidewinder

The Sidewinder (Crotalus cerastes) is a small species of rattlesnake found in the southeastern United States and northeast Mexico.

The common name alludes to its unusual form of locomotion, and it is famous for this ability to travel over loose sand by “sidewinding” which leaves unique prints in the sand.

Most adult specimens measure between 43 and 76 cm (17 and 30 in) in length.
