Herp of the day: Usambara Bush Viper

The Usambara Bush Viper (Atheris ceratophora) is a venomous snake found in Tanzania.

This arboreal viper is found only in the Usambara and Uzungwe mountains at altitudes of 700-2,000 meters (2,300-6,600 feet). Information about this species is sparse due to its rarity and remote habitat.

It grows to a maximum total length of 54 cm (21 in), females being slightly larger than males. Like other Atheris species, it is probably active mainly at night, or at dawn or dusk.
